Warnings from our Ancestors
Ancient accounts of prior cataclysms. A description of what is to come.
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents... the end of the world is evidently approaching.” -- text on an ancient Assyrian clay tablet.
¨Now there comes... a season when, after many years... it does not rain; and while it rains not, all seedlings and vegetation, all plants, grasses, and trees dry up, wither away and cease to be...the brooks and ponds dry up, vanish away... the great rivers... dry up... the great lakes... dry up... after another lapse of time... whereupon this great earth... [mountains] reek and fume and send forth clouds of smoke [volcanos]... After a last vast interval, a seventh sun appears, and then... this great earth, and Sineru, the monarch of mountains, flare and blaze, and become one mass of flame. And now, from earth and mountains burning and consuming, a spark is carried by the wind and goes as far as the worlds of God; and the peaks of Mount Sineru, burning, consuming, perishing, go down in one vast mass of fire and crumble for an hundred, yea, five hundred leagues...¨ -- Buddhist, Sermon of the Seven Suns
"When the sun is put out, and when the stars fall down, and when the mountains are blown away, and when pregnant camels are left untended, and when wild beasts are gathered together, and when the seas are set on fire, and when the souls 'and their bodies' are paired 'once more,' and when baby girls, buried alive, are asked for what crime they were put to death, and when the records 'of deeds' are laid open, and when the sky is stripped away, and when the Hellfire is fiercely flared up, and when Paradise is brought near—'on that Day' each soul will know what 'deeds' it has brought along." -- Islamic, Quaran (Koran) 81:1-14
"In the days of Rokoroko He Tau the sky fell. Fell from above on to the earth. The people cried out, ‘The sky has fallen in the days of King Rokoroko He Tau.’ He took hold: he waited a given time. The sky returned; it went away and it stayed up there." -- Easter Island Legend
Immanuel Velikovsky proposed in his 1950s book "Worlds in Collision" that many myths and traditions of ancient peoples and cultures are based on actual events: worldwide global catastrophes of a celestial origin, which had a profound effect on the lives, beliefs and oral traditions/writings of humankind.
While the particular interpretations of Velikovski are debated, the concept of a more literal interpretation of the mythologies formed the basis for making the connection between cultural histories and evidence of great disasters found by the sciences.
Catastrophists claim that cataclysms happen in a cyclical manner. That we are seeing signs of a coming catastrophe. And that if one knows the signs to watch for, what to expect and how to prepare, we can greatly increase our chances of survival.
I find it unlikely that the myths of supposedly isolated groups of humans scattered all over the planet, that share very similar themes and elements in their stories are merely humanity-wide imaginings, dreams, or delusions. For the sake of trying to look deeper into the most cherished stories of our ancestors I encourage you to read the following legends as if they were attempts to catalog and capture an account of actual events of global proportion. Consider the possibility that these stories are sincere accounts of our predecessors attempting to convey important historical happenings. Give leeway to the distortions of their unique cultural perception and the alterations to the myths that take place through the passage of time through the generations. In this article I collect a number of stories from different parts of the world that describe the same type of events. The stories in aggregate form a collection that I believe describes the upheavals of not only the past but possibly our near future.
We can see common motifs in the myths and legends ... could they be describing the phenomena that catastrophists are warning us about? For example:
Fire in the sky = a blast from the sun or some other celestial phenomenon
Great Flood = oceans displaced by continental upheavals and/or an abrupt polar flip
Earthquakes = caused by a crustal shift or magnetic polar shift
Long night, stars and Sun moving to new places = solar and geophysical events
Norse - The Story of Ragnarok
" ...there shall come a Great Winter unlike any other the world has yet seen. The biting winds will blow snows from all directions, and the warmth of the sun will fail, plunging the earth into unprecedented cold. This winter shall last for the length of three normal winters, with no summers in between. Mankind will become so desperate for food and other necessities of life that all laws and morals will fall away, leaving only the bare struggle for survival. It will be an age of swords and axes; brother will slay brother, father will slay son, and son will slay father."
Sky changes:
"The wolves Skoll and Hati, who have hunted the sun and the moon through the skies since the beginning of time, will at last catch their prey. The stars, too, will disappear, leaving nothing but a black void in the heavens."
Earthquakes:
"Yggdrasil, the great tree that holds the cosmos together, will tremble, and all the trees and even the mountains will fall to the ground."
The Great Flood:
"Jormungand, the mighty serpent who dwells at the bottom of the ocean and encircles the land, will rise from the depths, spilling the seas over all the earth as he makes landfall."
While serpents typically signify fire, Jormungand is also associated with earthquakes and floods. ("... continental Germans attributed earthquakes to his movements").
This ship Naglfar brings destruction:
"Its crew will be an army of giants, the forces of chaos and destruction. And its captain will be none other than Loki, the traitor to the gods, who will have broken free of the chains in which the gods have bound him."
Fire & Lightening:
"Fenrir [wolf], with fire blazing from his eyes and nostrils, will run across the earth, with his lower jaw on the ground and his upper jaw against the top of the sky, devouring everything in his path. Jormungand will spit his venom over all the world, poisoning land, water, and air alike.
The dome of the sky will be split, and from the crack shall emerge the fire-giants from Muspelheim. Their leader shall be Surt, with a flaming sword brighter than the sun in his hand."
The tale goes on to describe a battle against the Gods, one example:
"Thor and Jormungand (the serpent), those age-old foes, will both finally have their chance to kill the other. Thor will succeed in felling the great snake with the blows of his hammer. But the serpent will have covered him in so much venom that he will not be able to stand for much longer; he will take nine paces before falling dead..."
The original story of Ragnarok was written as a poem, this is an example of a stanza:
"The sun turns black, | earth sinks in the sea,
The hot stars down | from heaven are whirled;
Fierce grows the steam | and the life-feeding flame,
Till fire leaps high | about heaven itself"
The end of the world:
"Then the remains of the world will sink into the sea [the oceans will flood the land], and there will be nothing left but the void. Creation and all that has occurred since will be completely undone, as if it had never happened."
Rebirth:
"a new world, green and beautiful, will arise out of the waters. [the flood will recede]"
"A man and a woman, Lif and Lifthrasir (Old Norse: Líf and Lífþrasir, “Life” and “Striving after Life”), will have hidden themselves from the cataclysm in a place called the “Wood of Hoddmimir” (Hoddmímis holt), and will now come out and populate the lush land in which they will find themselves. A new sun, the daughter of the previous one, will rise in the sky."

Hindu - Kali Yuga
"Social status depends not upon your accomplishments, but in the ownership of property; wealth is now the source of virtue; passion and luxury are the sole bonds between spouses; falsity and lying are the conditions of success in life; sexuality is the sole source of human enjoyment; religion, a superficial and empty ritual, is confused with spirituality."
— Vishnu Purana (Hindu eschatology)
"Kali Yuga (Sanskrit: कलियुग, romanized: kaliyuga or kali-yuga) means 'the age of Kali', 'the age of darkness', 'the age of vice and misery', or 'the age of quarrel and hypocrisy.'
Most Hindus acknowledge as part of their cosmology that we are living in the Kali Yuga literally 'age of darkness', the last of four periods (Yugas) that make up the current age. Each period has seen a successive degeneration in the moral order and character of human beings, to the point that in the Kali Yuga... evil is ascendant in high places, and good people suffer in misery. Often, the invocation of Kali Yuga denotes a certain helplessness in the face of the horrors and suffering of the human condition and a nostalgia for a golden past or a future salvation.
Kali Yuga is the last of 4 Yugas. Upon its conclusion, the world will 'reboot' into a new Satya Yuga (Golden Age.) This involves the end of the world as we know it and the return of the Earth to a state of paradise.
However, Hindu conceptions of time, like those found in other non-Western traditions, is cyclical in that one age may end but another will always begin. As such, the cycle of birth, growth, decay, death, and renewal at the individual level finds its echo in the cosmic order of all things." (Eschatology)
"It is the lowest instincts that stimulate the men of the Kali Yuga, they prefer false ideas, they do not hesitate to persecute the sages, desire torments them... The different regions of the countries will oppose each other. The sacred books will no longer be respected. Men will not have morals, and will be irritable and sectarian. False doctrines and misleading writings spread in the age of Kali. People are afraid because they neglect the rules taught by the wise and do not perform the rites correctly anymore. Many will perish... Thieves become kings and kings become thieves... The earth produces almost nothing in some places and produces a lot in others. The powerful take over public goods and stop protecting the people... Teachers are debased by selling their knowledge. Many take refuge in a wandering life. At the end of the Yuga, the number of women increases and the number of men decreases... Good men withdraw from public life... Also the sacraments and religion are sold. The rain is erratic. The merchants dishonest.
People who beg or seek employment are becoming more numerous. Nobody stops using rude language, nobody keeps their word, everyone is envious. People without morals preach virtue to others. Censorship reigns. Criminal associations are formed in cities and towns. The water and the fruits will be lacking. Men will lose the sense of values. They will have belly aches and will have their hair in disarray. At the end of the Yuga, people will be born whose life expectancy will not reach sixteen. People will envy the clothes of others. The thieves will rob the thieves. Many will become lethargic and inactive, contagious diseases, rats and snakes will torment men... Men will kill each other and also kill children, women... The wise will be condemned to death."
Natural Calamities and disasters:
"In Kaliyuga, people will be extremely fearful of drought and hunger. The earth will lose its fertility and the flowers will perish. (Narada Purana 1.41.42, 76-77)
There will be hunger, drought and fatal diseases. (Kurma Purana 1.30.2)
Earth will produce practically no crops, trees will not bear fruits, clouds will not have water, cows won’t give enough milk and will live by eating feces. (Vayu Purana, Padma Purana)
Animals will be very violent and meager living beings such as germs, mice, serpents will torment humans. (Linga Purana 40.26-73)
The citizens will suffer greatly from cold, wind, heat, rain and snow. They will be further tormented by quarrels, hunger, thirst, disease and severe anxiety. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.10)"
Complete deterioration towards end of Kali Yuga:
"...truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day because of the powerful influence of the age of Kali. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.1)"
Business:
"People with money will rule other men and men in general will be fully occupied in earning money... (Vishnu Purana, book 4, chapter 38)
Success in business will be based on dishonesty and lying and cheating will be the means of success in legal proceedings. (Vishnu Purana, book 4, chapter 24)
Wealth alone will be considered as an indicator of a person’s good birth, behavior and qualities, justice in legal matters will depend on a person’s financial position. Success in business will depend on deceit and hypocrisy will be considered as a virtue. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.25)"
Society:
"In Kali age people are unrighteous, unmindful of the rules of conduct, fierce in anger but deficient in power and splendor. They always utter falsehood. (Vayu Purana I.58.33)
People will talk ill of others in their absence, but will talk very sweetly in their presence. People will be affectionate in words only. (Padma Purana 7.26.31)
A person's spiritual position will be ascertained merely according to external symbols, and on that same basis people will change from one spiritual order to the next. A person's propriety will be seriously questioned if he does not earn a good living. And one who is very clever at juggling words will be considered a learned scholar. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.4)
A person will be judged unholy if he does not have money, and hypocrisy will be accepted as virtue. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.5)
A sacred place will be taken to consist of no more than a reservoir of water located at a distance, and beauty will be thought to depend on one's hairstyle. Filling the belly will become the goal of life, and one who is audacious will be accepted as truthful. He who can maintain a family will be regarded as an expert man, and the principles of religion will be observed only for the sake of reputation. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.6)
Government administrators will be merely thieves and robbers. (Vayu Purana)
Losing their wives and properties to such avaricious and merciless rulers, who will behave no better than ordinary thieves, the citizens will flee to the mountains and forests. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.8)
Kaliyuga will be characterized by violence, jealousy, falsehood, deception, cheating, ridicule and murder of devotees, sages and ascetics, fatal diseases. (Brahmanda Purana 1.2.31.31-35)"
Family:
"Men and women will be devoid of good qualities. Men will not shy away from coveting other men’s wealth and wives and will injure others even for miniscule gains. (Shiva Purana 1.12-37)
Men will no longer protect their elderly parents, their children or their respectable wives. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.3.42)
People will be merciless, ill-behaved and greedy, they will engage in quarrels over petty issues. Men will behave as two-legged animals (dwi pad pashu), only caring about activities like eating, mating and sleeping. The age of Kali will be characterized by cheating, intoxication, violence, depression, lamentation, anxiety and fear. (Bhagavatam 12.3.30-31)
People will be wicked even selling their daughters. (Padma Purana)"
Health:
"Harassed by famine and excessive taxes, people will resort to eating leaves, roots... Struck by drought, they will become completely ruined. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.9)
They will lack adequate clothing, food and drink, will be unable to properly rest, have sex or bathe themselves, and will have no ornaments to decorate their bodies. In fact, the people of Kali-yuga will gradually come to appear like ghostly, haunted creatures. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.3.39-40)
Everything material will deteriorate over time and the people will reduce in age. (Srimad Bhagavatam 1.4.17-18)
People will be short-lived due to diseases, health and size of bodies as well as natural beauty will diminish. Babies will be killed in the wombs of their mothers. (Brahmanda Purana 1.2.31.69-70)
The maximum duration of life for human beings in Kali-yuga will become fifty years. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.11)
People will live a very short life, girls will bear children at the age of five to seven and boys will become fathers at the age of eight to ten, no one will survive beyond twenty years of age. (Vishnu Purana)
Only a few will survive towards the end of Kaliyuga, they will be affected by diseases and sorrows. No food will be available to them and they will slaughter each other. (Vayu Purana 98.391-407)
Evil spirit will take birth as humans in this age and will eat corpses and dead animals. (Padma Purana 1.76.123)
By the time the Age of Kali ends, the bodies of all creatures will be greatly reduced in size, and the religious principles... will be ruined... so-called religion will be mostly atheistic. The kings will mostly be thieves, the occupations of men will be stealing, lying and needless violence, and all the social classes will be reduced to the lowest level... spiritual hermitages will be no different from mundane houses, and family ties will extend no further than the immediate bonds of marriage. Most plants and herbs will be tiny, and all trees will appear like dwarf... trees. Clouds will be full of lightning, homes will be devoid of piety, and all human beings will have become like asses. At that time, the Supreme Personality of Godhead will appear on the earth. (Srimad Bhagavatam 12.2.12-16)"
(When and how will Kali Yuga end?)
"At the end of the day, under the insignificant portion of the mode of darkness, the powerful manifestation of the universe merges in the darkness of night. By the influence of eternal time, the innumerable living entities remain merged in that dissolution, and everything is silent. When the night of Brahmā ensues, all the three worlds are out of sight, and the sun and the moon are without glare, just as in the due course of an ordinary night.
The devastation takes place due to... the blazing fire which rages through the... world below. At the beginning of the devastation all the seas overflow, and hurricane winds blow very violently. Thus the waves of the seas become ferocious, and in no time at all the... [the] world is full of water.¨ (What is Kali Yuga? Is it the end times according to Hinduism? If so, when will it be over and what should people do to prepare for it?)
The Kolbrin
The Kolbrin is a 2-part, 11-book secular anthology that dates back approximately 3,600 years. It consists of the “Egyptian texts” and the “Celtic texts.” The first six books, known as the “Bronzebook,” are said to have been scribed by Egyptian writers shortly after the Exodus. The last five books, collectively called “Coelbook” or “Kailedy,” are believed to have been written by Celtic priests around the time the New Testament was being created. The Kolbrin Bible, a popular edition, predicts an end to life as we know it by a celestial event involving a massive space object known as the “Destroyer” or the “Frightener.”
Chapter Three: The Destruction and Re-creation
"It is known, and the story comes down from ancient times, that there was not one creation but two, a creation and a re-creation. It is a fact known to the wise that the Earth was utterly destroyed once then reborn on a second wheel of creation.
At the time of the great destruction of Earth, God caused a dragon from out of Heaven to come and encompass her about. The dragon was frightful to behold, it lashed its tail, it breathed out fire and hot coals, and a great catastrophe was inflicted upon mankind. The body of the dragon was wreathed in a cold bright light and beneath, on the belly, was a ruddy hued glow, while behind it trailed a flowing tail of smoke.
It spewed out cinders and hot stones and its breath was foul and stenchful, poisoning the nostrils of men. Its passage caused great thunderings and lightnings to rend the thick darkened sky, all Heaven and Earth being made hot. The seas were loosened from their cradles and rose up, pouring across the land. There was an awful, shrilling trumpeting which outpowered even the howling of the unleashed winds.
Men, stricken with terror, went mad at the awful sight in the Heavens. They were loosed from their senses and dashed about, crazed, not knowing what they did. The breath was sucked from their bodies and they were burnt with a strange ash.
Then it passed, leaving Earth enwrapped within a dark and glowering mantle which was ruddily lit up inside. The bowels of the Earth were torn open in great writhing upheavals and a howling whirlwind rent the mountains apart. The wrath of the sky-monster was loosed in the Heavens. It lashed about in flaming fury, roaring like a thousand thunders; it poured down fiery destruction amid a welter of thick black blood. So awesome was the fearfully aspected thing that the memory mercifully departed from man, his thoughts were smothered under a cloud of forgetfulness.
[Volcanos]
The Earth vomited forth great gusts of foul breath from awful mouths opening up in the midst of the land. The evil breath bit at the throat before it drove men mad and killed them. Those who did not die in this manner were smothered under a cloud of red dust and ashes, or were swallowed by the yawning mouths of Earth or crushed beneath crashing rocks.
The first sky-monster was joined by another which swallowed the tail of the one going before, but the two could not be seen at once. The sky-monster reigned and raged above Earth, doing battle to possess it, but the many bladed sword of God cut them in pieces, and their falling bodies [meteorites?] enlarged the land and the sea.
In this manner the first Earth was destroyed by calamity descending from out of the skies. The vaults of Heaven had opened to bring forth monsters more fearsome than any that ever haunted the uneasy dreams of men.
Men and their dwelling places were gone, only sky boulders and red earth remained where once they were, but amidst all the desolation a few survived, for man is not easily destroyed. They crept out from caves and came down from the mountainsides. Their eyes were wild and their limbs trembled, their bodies shook and their tongues lacked control. Their faces were twisted and the skin hung loose on their bones. They were as maddened wild beasts driven into an enclosure before flames; they knew no law, being deprived of all the wisdom they once had and those who had guided them were gone...
Then the great canopy of dust and cloud which encompassed the Earth, enshrouding it in heavy darkness, was pierced by ruddy light, and the canopy swept down in great cloudbursts and raging storm waters. Cool moontears were shed for the distress of Earth and the woes of men.
When the light of the sun pierced the Earth's shroud, bathing the land in its revitalizing glory, the Earth again knew night and day, for there were now times of light and times of darkness. The smothering canopy rolled away and the vaults of Heaven became visible to man. The foul air was purified and new air clothed the reborn Earth, shielding her from the dark hostile void of Heaven.
The rainstorms ceased to beat upon the faces of the land and the waters stilled their turmoil. Earthquakes no longer tore the Earth open, nor was it burned and buried by hot rocks. The land masses were re-established in stability and solidity, standing firm in the midst of the surrounding waters. The oceans fell back to their assigned places and the land stood steady upon its foundations.
The sun shone upon land and sea, and life was renewed upon the face of the Earth. Rain fell gently once more and clouds of fleece floated across dayskies. The waters were purified, the sediment sank and life increased in abundance. Life was renewed, but it was different. Man survived, but he was not the same. The sun was not as it had been and a moon had been taken away.
Man stood in the midst of renewal and regeneration. He looked up into the Heavens above in fear for the awful powers of destruction lurking there. Henceforth, the placid skies would hold a terrifying secret.
Man found the new Earth firm and the Heavens fixed. He rejoiced but also feared, for he lived in dread that the Heavens would again bring forth monsters and crash about him.
When men came forth from their hiding places and refuges, the world their fathers had known was gone forever. The face of the land was changed and Earth was littered with rocks and stones which had fallen when the structure of Heaven collapsed.
One generation groped in the desolation and gloom, and as the thick darkness was dispelled its children believed they were witnessing a new creation. Time passed, memory dimmed and the record of events was no longer clear. Generation followed generation and as the ages unfolded, new tongues and new tales replaced the old."
Chapter Four: The Deluge
"...Then, with the dawning, men saw an awesome sight. There, riding on a great black rolling cloud came the Destroyer, newly released from the confines of the sky vaults, and she raged about the Heavens, for it was her day of judgment. The beast with her opened its mouth and belched forth fire and hot stones and a vile smoke.
It covered the whole sky above and the meeting place of Earth and Heaven could no longer be seen. In the evening the places of the stars were changed, they rolled across the sky to new stations [polar axis flip or crustal shift], then the floodwaters came. The floodgates of Heaven were opened and the foundations of Earth were broken apart. The surrounding waters poured over the land and broke upon the mountains. The storehouses of the winds burst their bolts asunder, so storms and whirlwinds were loosed, to hurl themselves upon the Earth. In the seething waters and howling gales all buildings were destroyed, trees were uprooted and mountains cast down. There was a time of great heat, then came a time of bitter cold. The waves over the waters did not rise and fall but seethed and swirled, there was an awful sound above.
The pillars of Heaven were broken and fell down to Earth. The sky vault was rent and broken, the whole of creation was in chaos. The stars in the Heavens were loosened from their places, so they dashed about in confusion. There was a revolt on high, a new ruler appeared there and swept across the sky in majesty.
Those who had not labored at the building of the great ship and those who had mocked the builders came quickly to the place where it was lying. They climbed upon the ship and beat upon it with their hands; they raged and pleaded, but could not enter inside, nor could they break the wood. As the great ship was borne up by the waters it rolled and they were swept off, for there was no foothold for them. The ship was lifted by the mighty surge of waters and hurled among the debris, but it was not dashed upon the mountainside because of the place where it was built. All the people not saved within the ship were swallowed up in the midst of raging confusion, and their wickedness and corruption was purged away from the face of the Earth.
The swelling waters swept up to the mountain top and filled the valleys. They did not rise like water poured into a bowl, but came in great surging torrents; but when the tumult quietened and the waters became still, they stood no more than three cubits [about 5 feet] above the Earth. The Destroyer passed away into the fastness of Heaven and the great flood remained seven days, diminishing day by day as the waters drained away to their places. Then the waters spread out calmly and the great ship drifted amid a brown scum and debris of all kinds.
After many days the great ship came to rest upon Kardo, in the mountains of Ashtar, against Nishim in The Land of God."
Zoroastrian - Bundahis
In the cosmological text Bundahis, the creation of the Earth results from a cataclysmic battle between the creator, the creator´s allies (spirits/angels), and demons. The Zoroastrian religion is considered the precursor to the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism).
6.2 - The spirit of the sky is himself like one of the warriors who has put on armor; he arrayed the sky against the evil spirit, and led on in the contest.
7.1 - The second conflict was waged with the water...
7.5 - Every single drop of that rain became as big as a bowl, and the water stood the height of a man over the whole of this earth; and the noxious creatures on the earth being all killed by the rain.
7.6 - ...the wind spirit... stirs up the wind and atmosphere as the life stirs in the body; and the water was all swept away by it, and was brought out to the borders of the earth, and the wide-formed ocean arose therefrom.
7.11 - Afterwards, with a cloud... he seized upon the water and made it rain most prodigiously, in drops like bull's heads and men's heads, pouring in handfuls and pouring in armfuls, both great and small.
7.12 - On the production of that rain the demons... contended with it, and the fire... made a very grievous noise...
7.14 - ...at the end of three days, on various sides of the earth...the sea thereby became manifest...
8.1 - As the evil spirit rushed in, the earth shook, and the substance of mountains was created in the earth.
8.2 - ...all the mountains remained in motion...
An Earthquake of cosmic origin:
30.18 - ...As Gochihr [a dragon] falls in the celestial sphere from a moon-beam on to the earth, the distress of the earth becomes such-like as that of a sheep when a wolf falls upon it.
A volcano:
30.19.- Afterwards, the fire and halo melt the metal... in the hills and mountains, and it remains on this earth like a river.
30.20. - Then all men will pass into that melted metal...
Following the purification of man, evil demons are defeated, and the messiah recreates the world as a paradise.
(The Bundahishn ("Creation"), or Knowledge from the Zand)
In sacred stories from around the world, paradise follows the cataclysm.
Book of Enoch
90.6 - ...oppression will exist and prevail on earth; that on earth great punishment shall in the end take place; and that there shall be a consummation of all iniquity, which shall be cut off from its root, and every fabric raised by it shall pass away. Iniquity, however, shall again be renewed, and consummated on earth. Every act of crime, and every act of oppression and impiety, shall be a second time embraced.
79.3 - In the days of sinners the years shall be shortened.
79.4 - Their seed shall be backward in their prolific soil; and everything done on earth shall be subverted, and disappear in its season. The rain shall be restrained...
79.5 - In those days the fruits of the earth shall be late, and not flourish in their season; and in their season the fruits of the trees shall be withholden.
1.5 - All shall be afraid...
1.6 - Great fear and trembling shall seize them, even to the ends of the earth. The lofty mountains shall be troubled, and the exalted hills depressed, melting like a honeycomb in the flame. The earth shall be immerged, and all things which are in it perish...
10.4 - ...the waters of a deluge shall come over the whole earth, and all things which are in it shall be destroyed.
17.3 -...There was a bow of fire, and arrows in their quiver, a sword of fire, and every species of lightning.
17.4 - [lava]...I came to a river of fire, which flowed like water...
18.13 - And in the columns of heaven I beheld fires, which descended without number...
55 - ...I beheld another army of chariots...they came upon the wind...the noise of their chariots was heard... the pillar of the earth shook from its foundation; and the sound was heard from the extremities of the earth unto the extremities of heaven at the same time.
58.2 - ...I was incapable of enduring this vision of violence, its agitation, and the concussion of heaven.
64.1 - ...Noah saw that the earth became inclined, and that destruction approached.
64.3 - ...the earth labours, and is violently shaken...
74 - ...gates open for the circuit of the chariots of the sun in heaven, from which the rays of the sun shoot forth...From these proceed heat over the earth...
82.10 - ...all this calamity upon earth comes down from heaven; upon earth shall there be a great destruction.

Hopi
"We have teachings and prophecies informing us that we must be alert for the signs and omens which will come about to give us courage and strength to stand on our beliefs. Blood will flow. Our hair and our clothing will be scattered upon the earth. Nature will speak to us with its mighty breath of wind. There will be earthquakes and floods causing great disasters, changes in the seasons and in the weather, disappearance of wildlife, and famine in different forms. There will be gradual corruption and confusion among the leaders and the people all over the world, and wars will come about like powerful winds. All of this has been planned from the beginning of creation." -- Dan Katchongva, Sun Clan leader from the village of Hotevilla
"More than any other tribe in North America, the Hopi Indians have developed according to the dictates and demands of what may be called a legacy of prophecy. The predictions of the life to come do not merely pertain to the Hopi themselves but deal with impending events on a global scale.
These prophecies began to be made public shortly before the mid-20th century. The Hopi are an aggregation of clans that came together at the 'center-point' (Tuuwanasavi) in northern Arizona during the course of their migrations. Because they are not a monolithic tribe, the sources of their prophecies are fragmentary and multifarious. Part of the lack of narrative clarity also has to do with the secretive nature of the Hopi.
The Hopi conceptualize the cycles of time as world-ages. The Hopi believe that we have suffered three previous world cataclysms. The First World was destroyed by fire—a cosmic event and a number of volcanic eruptions. The Second World was destroyed by ice—a great Ice Age. As recorded by many cultures around the globe, a tremendous deluge destroyed the Third World. The prophesied Fourth World’s demise includes an increasingly erratic climate, and social and political imbalance. The prophesied Earth changes include earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, record flooding, wildfires, droughts, and famines. The elders said a 'gourd of ashes' would fall on the Earth. The country would wake up to a thunderous eruption of war.
Hopi prophecies include the fact that people would ride in 'horseless wagons' on 'black ribbons'. In addition, aerial vehicles would travel 'roads in the heavens'. The Hopi also stated that one of the final signs is that people would be 'living in the sky'."
(Hopi Prophecy and the End of the Fourth World - Part 1)
"Dan Evehema, also from the village of Hotevilla, claimed that the Day of Purification (the Apocalypse?) would '…culminate either in total rebirth or total annihilation—we don’t know which. But the choice is yours, war and natural catastrophe may be involved. The degree of violence will be determined by the degree of inequity caused among peoples of the world and in balance with nature. In this crisis rich and poor will be forced to struggle as equals in order to survive.'
Most Hopi people ultimately believe, however, that this transition between world-ages will not mean the total 'end of the world' as we know it, but rather the beginning of what they call the Fifth World—a time of peace for humanity and pristine harmony with Mother Nature. Leaning more toward the possibility of renaissance (literally, rebirth) and regeneration rather than annihilation and desolation."
(Hopi Prophecy and the End of the Fourth World—Part 2)
Hopi Prophesies:
"Three previous human worlds were destroyed when people became greedy, worshiped technology as a god, fought and hurt each other, and repeatedly forgot the ethical teachings they’d been given to honor the Earth as the source of life and sustenance." (Hopi Prophecy—A Timeless Warning)
" 'You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease.' "
-- White Feather, (Hopi Prophecy And The End Times)
"The first three of these worlds [cycles] have already been inhabited and subsequently destroyed. Each time one of the worlds is destroyed, the faithful Hopi are taken underground and saved from destruction to later emerge and populate the next world.
The Blue Star Kachina (Sirius) is said to be the ninth and final sign before the "Day of Purification", described as an apocalypse or a 'world engulfing cataclysm' that will lead to the destruction of the world." (Blue Star Kachina)
"The 'great dwelling place' in the heavens shall fall with a great crash." (Eschatology)
"Thomas Banyacya:
At the meeting in 1948, Hopi leaders 80, 90 and even 100 years old explained that the creator made the first world in perfect balance where humans spoke one language, but humans turned away from moral and spiritual principles. They misused their spiritual powers for selfish purposes.
They did not follow nature's rules. Eventually the world was destroyed by sinking of land and separation of land by what you would call major earthquakes. Many died and only a small handful survived. Then this handful of peaceful people came into the second world.
They repeated their mistakes and the world was destroyed by freezing which you call the great Ice Age. The few survivors entered the third world.
That world lasted a long time and as in previous worlds, the people spoke one language. The people invented many machines and conveniences of high technology, some of which have not yet been seen in this age. They even had spiritual powers that they used for good.
They gradually turned away from natural laws and pursued only material things and finally only gambled while they ridiculed spiritual principles. No one stopped them from this course and the world was destroyed by the great flood that many nations still recall in their ancient history or in their religions.
The Elders said again only small groups escaped and came to this fourth world where we now live. Our world is in terrible shape again even though the Great Spirit gave us different languages and sent us to four corners of the world and told us to take care of the Earth and all that is in it.
Chief Dan Evehema:
Their guidelines of wisdom and knowledge will falter, the Great Laws of our Creator will dissolve in the minds of people. Children will be out of control and will no longer obey the leaders, immorality and the competitive war of greed will flourish...
When the end is near, we will see a halo of mist around the heavenly bodies...
So the time will come when we will experience late springs and early frosts, this will be the sign of the returning Ice Age...
In the regions with different climates, things will happen in different ways. For instance, tropical land could become a land of ice, and the Arctic region could become tropical...
Fuel shortages will occur; industrial machinery will come to a standstill. The machinery used for planting, harvesting and transport will become useless. Supermarket shelves will become empty of farm produce. The farmers and those who grow their own food will not sell their produce. Money will become worthless. The white man with all his intelligence and technology will not be able to repair the damage. We will see extraordinary events in Nature and Earth, including humans...
The liberators will come in from the west with great force. They will drop down from the sky like rain. They will have no mercy. We must not get on the house tops to watch... This will be the final decisive battle between good and evil. This battle will cleanse the heart of people and restore our Mother Earth from illness, and the wicked will be gotten rid of.
We Are All Related by Dr. Allen Ross:
The Hopis believe their homeland will be preserved as an oasis to which refugees will flee. The Hopi settled in the area now known as Four Corners, where the state lines of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado meet. They lived in humble simplicity in the 'heart' of the U.S. The earth will become new and beautiful again, with an abundance of life and food. Those who are saved will share everything equally. All races will intermarry and speak one tongue and be a family...
The Hopi also have prophesied that 'Turtle Island could turn over two or three times and the oceans could join hands and meet the sky.' This seems to be a prophecy of a 'pole shift' — a flipping, of the planet on its axis...
The world shall rock to and fro... There will be many columns of smoke... those which come will cause disease and a great dying. Many of my people, understanding the prophecies, shall be safe.
Those who stay and live in the places of my people also shall be safe. Then there will be much to rebuild...
Hopi prophecy also tells us that there will be a mass migration of Indians northward from Mexico and Central and South America...
Robert Ghost Wolf:
The Hopis say that there will be two more worlds after this. 'The Sixth Age' which is 'The World of Prophecy and Revelation' and 'The Seventh Age' is 'The World of Completion'...
There are 3 days of darkness in Hopi Prophecy...
Hopi Elders on the Art Bell Radio Show, June 16, 1998:
The teaching from the Elders was that they talked about that everything will happen at once...like a domino effect... this whole planet, here, will become a different type of planet because of the changes in itself. It has happened before...
They [people] should start changing themselves and going back to the old ways of living simple lives, of taking care of themselves from the land that is available to them, and from the food that they grow. These are the things that will help you along the way when you come to your hard times. So, the people must make these decisions for themselves...
...the solar axis itself, of the Sun, is going to change. ...the axis of the Earth itself will change, also.....shift....and that will cause a lot of Earth changes..."
(Hopi Prophecies - Prophecy Rock)
"You have been telling people that this is the Eleventh Hour, now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour. And there are things to be considered…
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for your leader.
Then he clasped his hands together, smiled, and said, 'This could be a good time! There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.
And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word ’struggle’ from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.' "
--Hopi Elders' Prophecy, June 8, 2000 (We are the Ones We've Been Waiting For)
"When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, creeds and classes, and who by these actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They shall be known as the 'Warriors of the Rainbow.' " (Joseph White Eagle, Hopi Nation prophecy: World enters dangerous time)
In the past NASA scientists were asking Hopi elders about what they could share about the Earth changes, suggesting that the U.S. government is investigating the disasters of the past. One important piece of advice from the Hopi is that "people on the coasts will have to move inland." This is presumably due to the continental floods and tsunamis that come with the cataclysm. I would add that we need to be high in elevation. (The Hopi prophecies are coming true — here’s why we should pay attention)
Conclusion
While it might be easy to dismiss the above myths, legends, and scripture as fantasy, we would do so at our peril. The descriptions of nature out of balance and society's moral degeneration sound uncomfortably close to our present day. I believe that the accounts are a warning of events to come and that we should consider what attributes of healthy humanity we wish to preserve, and what it might take to do that. It is time for us to get ourselves in right relationship with the Earth, the cosmos, and each other, so that we have the clarity of mind to embrace the coming changes. This would seem to be the desire of our ancestors.
After all, the storytellers are the survivors. Perhaps their most powerful message is that we can be survivors, too.
This article has touched upon ancient tales from Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the South Pacific, and North America. The stories from around the world share very similar themes and support the idea of a global catastrophe experienced by all on the planet. Several stories attest to a repeating cataclysm. Each cataclysm follows a period of climatic disruption and social degeneration.
From my current vantage point, I do not see the cause of such catastrophes to be sinful behavior, nor a result of our alleged carbon emission sins as promoted by globalists like the United Nations, as there are better explanations for our odd weather. The Hindus have captured an element of it when they describe the Kali Yuga as happening to us. The transformation in the geophysical realm seems to have impacts on our bodies and psyche. That said, we are ultimately responsible for who we choose to be and living in a "good way" as the Hopi suggest will benefit us in many ways and increase the probability of our survival in this bodily form.

For more stories of the cataclysm from different cultures, I have enjoyed the work of catastrophist Graham Hancock. His Ancient Apocalypse Netflix series is a good place to start. Both Graham and Velikovski propose a comet as the cause of the cyclical disasters. A micronova fits the evidence better.
Anthony Peratt offers a convincing presentation on how petroglyphs from throughout the world are drawings of solar plasma phenomenon painted on rocks by eye-witnesses.
Jimmy Corsetti suggests that prior to the upheaval of the Younger Dryas (Gothenberg) doomsday event 12,000 years ago there existed an advanced global civilization destroyed in that cataclysm.
While Wikipedia has become a platform of propaganda for the official narrative of misinformation it sometimes has some useful content. I found their article on Eschatology helpful.
In the next article, I will examine the evidence arguing that this type of cataclysm is cyclical by evaluating a theory by catastrophist Ben Davidson, expressed in his video: The Official Solar-Heinrich-Magnetic Cycle.
Many other stories exist from the Aztecs, Inca, Maya, Jews, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, peoples of Mesopotamia and indigenous tribes from around the world. Feel free to post more stories below about the cataclysms of our past.

Doug Voght has two chapters from his book: Reality Revealed, The Theory of Multidimensional Reality, that are pertinent to the topic.
Chapter 10 is primarily about his hypothesis that the great pyramids were intended as survival structures during global cataclysms. I had the same thought after listening to a Robert Schoch interview on the Joe Rogan Experience. Also interesting in this chapter is the descriptions of the burnt bodies and structures of the North American mound building indigenous peoples.

Chapter 11 is a collection of mythologies from around the world about cataclysms along with Doug's sometimes doubtful interpretations.
